National Apprenticeship Week 2022 takes place from 7th to 13th February 2022. This week brings together everyone passionate about apprenticeships to celebrate the value, benefit, and opportunity that apprenticeships bring.
The theme of National Apprenticeship Week 2022 is ‘Build the Future’, a continuation of the 2021 campaign and allowing the week to link to the key pillars of the Build Back Better campaign.
At Fifosys, we're proud to support young people looking to get into the world of IT. Support and development are at the heart of everything we do - we've already helped many people get a foothold into employment by offering apprenticeships and will continue to do so.
For this year's National Apprenticeship Week, we sat down with one of our latest apprentices, Matthew Webb.
Currently, I am on a Level 3 IT Support Technician Apprenticeship at Fifosys.
How did you find this apprenticeship?I found this apprenticeship through my friend - now colleague - Dan, who had mentioned Fifosys were looking to hire an apprentice as I had said to him I was looking for a job role in IT.
He had recommended to me to the HR director Sunita, who was in contact with me for a couple of weeks to sort out enrolment and a short interview with myself and the Service Desk manager.
They had also set me up with an induction day where I was able to look around the office and shadow a few of the service desk members to take a look at what they do and if it was suitable for me.
I was also in contact with Baltic, who runs the apprenticeship scheme. They were able to set me up with an induction meeting to introduce me to the course they would be providing and what I would be learning.
From this apprenticeship, I believe the main lesson I have learnt is how important teamwork can be as on the days when all of the service desk members are in the office, tasks seem to speed up tremendously as we are all able to clearly communicate with each other and can get through tickets a lot quicker.
I currently have no solid plans once I have completed my apprenticeship. But, I believe I'd like to keep working at Fifosys and develop into a fully-fledged team member and can take on the same roles as my colleagues and develop my skills even further.
The main reasons why I would recommend this scheme are due to the skills I have developed and the support I have received.
Working on the service desk and taking part in my apprenticeship has developed my communication skills heavily.
The system itself is also a big help as training with both Baltic and working at Fifosys side by side has really helped my understanding of IT and have been able to develop my skills all at once.
The support I have received from Fifosys and Baltichas been brilliant and has helped me through this apprenticeship. I've already learned so much more about the world of IT!
