Our Client

The Saatchi Gallery aims to provide an innovative forum for contemporary art, presenting work by largely unseen young artists or by international artists whose work have been rarely or never exhibited in the UK.

The audience for exhibitions of contemporary art has increased widely during the recent years as general awareness and interest in contemporary art has developed both in Britain and abroad.

The Challenge

The Saatchi Gallery IT systems were based on an aging, on premise infrastructure. Due to growth in both data and demand, the existing IT infrastructure was no longer considered fit for purpose. Saatchi Gallery were also keen to adopt new technologies with the aim to improve staff productivity.

Saatchi Gallery truly recognize the value of their data and their need for a best-in-class backup and business continuity solution to ensure critical data is 100% protected and instantly recoverable in the event of a disaster.

Our Solution

Having undertaken full IT audit of the existing systems, Fifosys recommended a hybrid cloud computing environment comprising of both on-premise servers for performance sensitive applications, and standard Cloud services for non-performance sensitive systems. The key part of the project were:

  • Install new server built for infrastructure Virtualization
  • Upgraded all servers to Windows Server 2012 R2
  • Migrated the existing bespoke software to their new servers
  • Installed Datto Siris backup and business continuity solution for on-premise servers
  • Migrated email systems from an on-premise IT infrastructure to Microsoft Office 365
  • Implemented Datto Backupify backup for Microsoft Office 365
  • The infrastructure upgrade was coupled with the provision of fully managed IT support services and system management for Saatchi Gallery.

The Benefits

The solution has dramatically improve the resilience of the environment and offers a scalable platform. This has given Saatchi Gallery faster performance, increased reliability and improved data security. This has had a direct impact on user experience and the improved reliability will allow greater productivity.

The Office 365 component represents an important first step into cloud computing. This has allowed staff greater productivity and mobility. And finally, the Datto cloud solution, which protects both on-premise and Office 365 data gives Saatchi Gallery the ability to recover their data and systems almost immediately should disaster strike.

All new IT systems are fully managed and maintained by Fifosys.
