Systems Consultant

Reporting to: Head of Infrastructure Services

Fifosys is seeking a proactive and service-focused Systems Consultant to join our Infrastructure Services team. This is a 3rd line infrastructure role operating at both a technical and consultative level, working closely with Service Desk, Professional Services and Account Management teams.

The role is well suited to an infrastructure engineer looking to step into a more consultative, customer-facing position, deepen expertise across cloud and security technologies and progress towards a senior technical or architectural career path within an MSP environment.

Role overview

You will help ensure the stability, security, scalability and continuous improvement of our customers’ IT environments. The role includes resolving complex technical issues, supporting technical decision-making, driving automation and standardisation, and developing into a trusted technical authority for both internal teams and customers.

You will support the Infrastructure Services function through cloud-first design, security-led operations, proactive service delivery and evidence-based quality of service. Occasional on-site customer visits will also be required to support incident resolution, workshops and client meetings.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as the 3rd line escalation point for complex and business-critical incidents, including root cause analysis and problem management.
  • Lead or contribute to major and critical incidents end to end, taking ownership of technical coordination and post-incident review.
  • Contribute to proactive service delivery across client environments, including monitoring, patching, optimisation and onboarding to agreed standards.
  • Provide technical oversight for changes and improvements, ensuring strong planning, risk management and service continuity.
  • Develop into a subject matter expert for selected products, maintaining close relationships with vendors and tracking product roadmaps.
  • Support technical product and service reporting relevant to Infrastructure Services.
  • Contribute to and progressively lead automation, standardisation and platform improvements to improve efficiency, security and resilience.
  • Support customer security posture, backup, business continuity and disaster recovery.
  • Support and mentor 1st and 2nd line engineers where appropriate.
  • Maintain clear, high-quality technical documentation and communicate effectively with customers and internal stakeholders.

What you will bring

Required

  • Minimum 2 to 3 years’ experience in a 2nd or 3rd line, or infrastructure role within an MSP or enterprise environment.
  • Proven experience operating in complex, multi-client or multisite environments.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to balance reactive support with proactive improvement work.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft 365 and Azure, including identity, networking and security fundamentals.
  • Deep understanding of Windows Server, Active Directory or Entra ID, and Group Policy.
  • Experience with virtualisation platforms such as VMware and Hyper-V.
  • Experience with automation and scripting.
  • Strong knowledge of advanced networking concepts including routing, switching, VPNs and firewalls.
  • Experience managing firewalls, routers, storage and core infrastructure services.
  • Solid understanding of backup, business continuity and disaster recovery concepts and tooling.
  • Strong understanding of cyber security principles and controls.

Desirable

  • Exposure to AWS or Google Cloud.
  • Knowledge of VoIP or unified communications solutions.
  • Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate, AZ-104.
  • Microsoft 365 Administrator or Identity and Services certifications, such as MS-102 or MS-100.
  • Experience supporting the safe adoption of AI tools, such as Microsoft 365 Copilot.
  • Experience with common MSP tooling, including RMM platforms, PSA systems, SIEM or SOC platforms, and backup platforms such as Datto or Veeam.
  • Linux administration experience.
